Now I’ve dealt with your backswing, I’m going to help you produce more power in your downswing. By retaining the angles in your swing, just like Sergio Garcia, you’ll soon start to find your ball further down the fairway...
LAG LIKE SERGIO
Let’s face it, we all want to hit the ball further, and lag – which creates greater clubhead speed – is a key factor in doing that. All top players produce lag but the most obvious exponent is Sergio Garcia. The angle between your wrists and the shaft of your club should be held until the very last moment before your hands snap through at impact – just like the crack of a whip. RETAIN THE ANGLE These two drills will help you create more lag...
Try swinging or even hitting a few balls with your middle fingers off the grip. This allows the club to load while it’s coming down and gives the feeling of more lag. You should almost try and feel like you’re trying to hit your right shoulder coming down – the light pressure helps your grip change direction more effectively and helps produce more lag.- Another good drill is to split your hands up and sense the angle being held for longer.
